Это песня о болезненной и необратимой влюблённости в опасного мужчину — «ковбоя, гангстера, политика», который, как предупреждал отец, только берёт и опустошает. Настроение здесь одновременно страстное и обречённое: лирическая героиня признаёт, что сердце на нитке, разум мёртв, а расставание не помогает, потому что чувства не отпускают. Ключевой образ — огонь и пламя: их нельзя разделить, как нельзя сбежать от любящей женщины, которая сама себя называет той, кого он любит и в ком нуждается.
